Artist Directory - Rotated Images
If images on your Artist Directory page appear to be rotated 90 degrees (so they look sideways), the problem is not the Artist Directory. You will need to fix a rotation problem in your image and then update your Artist Directory entry.
Digital cameras can be rotated when taking a photo. For example, your cell phone camera is normally held in "portrait" orientation, but you can turn it 90 degrees and take a photo in "landscape" orientation. Internally, the photo really is sideways (rotated) but the camera records your orientation. Many image viewing and editing apps will compensate and show the image correctly.
Unfortunately, uploading your image to a web page (as you do for an Artist Directory entry) does not rotate the picture correctly for you, and unless you have edited the photo somehow your image will appear sideways (rotated) on your Artist Directory page.
There are a couple of ways you can choose to fix this.
1. Use an Image Editing App
If you have an image editing app and are comfortable using it, open your image in the editing app. It will likely look OK since the editing app compensates for your rotated image. To fix the problem, rotate the image 90 degrees left, then rotate it again 90 degrees to the right so it’s back to normal. Or, make any other minor change that will not be noticed such as reducing the size of the image by 1 pixel. Then save the file on your computer.
When you get to the file upload section, remove the old file for any that need rotation (by clicking the X found nearby) and upload the corrected version(s). This should take care of your rotation problem. If images look OK on your Artist Directory page, those images do not need to be fixed or uploaded again - only fix the ones that appear sideways.
2. Use a free Image Rotation Service
Some websites will perform image editing for you. If you need to update just a few images, iloveimg.com will let you do this for free. Follow these steps to fix your image:
-
In your browser, go to iloveimg.com.
-
Click the Rotate Image button.
-
Click the blue Select Images button, then select the image file that needs to be fixed from your computer.
-
Your image should appear on the page, along with LEFT and RIGHT rotation buttons.
-
Click the LEFT rotation button, then click the RIGHT rotation button.
-
At this point, your image should appear oriented correctly. If not, continue rotating the image LEFT or RIGHT until it looks correct.
-
Click the blue ROTATE IMAGES button.
-
On the next page, click the blue DOWNLOAD IMAGES button. This will download the corrected image file to your computer.
Note: iloveimg.com has other useful image editing features, such as cropping, resizing, etc. It is a handy utility if you don't have image editing software, but once you hit the usage limit you may need to subscribe for a fee.
For either method, you can then update your Artist Directory entry (to do this, click here).
